The NFDA has appointed Mark Squires as its new Chairman. The body, which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle dealers in the UK, appointed Squires to succeed outgoing chairman Peter Jones, whose tenure ended on 11 October following his two years of service.

Squires boasts considerable experience in the auto retail sector. He spent 23 years working for the Benfield Motor Group, which was acquired by Lookers in 2015, including 15 as the company’s CEO. He also has strong links with the NFDA, having spent 10 years’ on the executive committee chairing its aftersales working group and investigating how to promote the value of using brand-specific franchised retailers for servicing and repair needs to consumers.

Commenting on his appointment, Squires said: “I am honoured and delighted to take on the role of NFDA Chairman. Brexit will make this a particularly interesting tenure as Chairman as our great industry adjusts to the changes ahead. I look forward to supporting Director Sue Robinson, her team and our members over the next few years and would like to thanks Peter Jones for his years of service.”
