Grainger Motor Group founders, brothers Harry and Neal Grainger have acquired East Anglian dealer group EMG Anglia.

Based on EMG’s latest statutory accounts, showing £116 million turnover, the deal means that Grainger Motor Group is quickly approaching the threshold of the AM100 rankings of the UK’s largest franchised motor retailers.

“The longstanding, successful EMG business is an acquisition that fits geographically and strategically with our growth ambitions, allowing us to further our strong partnership with Kia and pick up our former relationships with Mazda, Nissan and MG,” said the Grainger brothers, who had previously worked with their father David Grainger at Norton Way Group.

The deal will see Grainger Motor Group expand to 14 sites. These include Kia Cambridge, Ely, Kings Lynn & Thetford, Mazda Cambridge & Boston, MG Ipswich, Nissan Kings Lynn and used car sites in Huntingdon, Duxford, Bury St Edmunds, Spalding and Esso Stapleford.

Earlier this month Harry and Neal Grainger who are now joint Managing Directors of the group officially became business partners with the acquisition of Mantles Kia Royston. They created the new dealer group five months after leaving their positions as Operations Director and Finance Director at Norton Way Group which itself was acquired by Marubeni Auto Investment sixteen years ago.

“We look forward to meeting all the EMG staff and welcoming them into the Grainger Motor Group family,” said Managing Director Harry Grainger.
