Arnold Clark, the country’s fourth largest franchised retail group has acquired Phoenix Car Company. All six dealerships and current staff will be absorbed by the Scottish group.

Eddie Hawthorne, Arnold Clark’s chairman & chief executive, said “I can confirm we are working with Phoenix to transfer some business assets and all existing employees. We are also working to gain the agreement of the manufacturers to transfer the franchises.”

He said: “I hope that we can continue to build upon what is already a prominent and well-respected company within the automotive industry.”

John McGuire, Phoenix’s chairman and chief executive, founded the group in 1993. As well as franchises for Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Honda, the group has a used car supermarket, Phoenix Motown.
